Alfred Chewe is the Managing Director of Farm Select Limited, an integrated agribusiness in Zambia. It seeks to provide affordable protein to Zambians and residents of neighboring countries. Alfred started his career in 1988 as an Assistant Accountant at Scaw Limited. In 1993, he joined Finance Bank Zambia as an Officer in Charge of Head Office Accounts. In 1995, he moved to Zambia Revenue Authority as a Senior Tax Inspector and was promoted a year later where he was the Senior Tax Inspector for the whole country in Cash Team Retailers.
At the same time, he acquired his first farm where he learnt a lot with regards to crop management, horticulture and poultry breeding. After 4 years at Zambia Revenue Authority, Alfred resigned in 1999 due to an opportunity he saw in commercial and residential real estate. He has managed the construction of several developments such as: houses, office blocks, malls and farms. In 2013, he diversified his expertise as he bought a franchise from Spar International and ran the supermarket in Chilenje, which was eventually sold to Choppies Supermarkets. In 2017, Alfred established Farm Select Ltd to meet the gap in the lack of affordable protein after a decline in the Zambian macroeconomic environment. Strategically, Farm Select has focused on poultry in order to achieve economies of scale through vertical integration with a focus on both local and export markets. Alfred’s successful experience in property development, retail and farming places him as a disruptor in the farming space. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
Justice Philip Musonda is a Consulting Partner of Bemvi Associates, Justice of the Court of Appeal in the Kingdom of Lesotho and Director of Postgraduate Studies at Cavendish University. He also lectures at University of Zambia, Zambia Open University and Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Additionally, he supervises PhD candidates at these institutions. He is a Supreme Court Judge (Emeritus) in Zambia. In 1989 he was the Special Assistant to the Chief Justice. 1998 he was appointed as first Chief Administrator/Permanent Secretary of an Autonomous Judiciary and was in the same year appointed as the Deputy Registrar of the High Court. In 2002 he was appointed as High Court Judge and was later appointed as Supreme Court Judge in 2011. He holds a LLB from the University of Zambia (1988), a Master of Laws in International Business from the University of London (1993), Certificate in Legal Aspects of International Financial Law (1993) and Doctorate in Philosophy Constitutionalism (2012).
Colliard Hamusimbi is a minds and hands-on consultant/expert in rural development, food and agriculture. Colliard has expertise in agribusiness (value chain) designs, development, monitoring and evaluation (M&E). He has over 20 years of proven performance and experience in food, agriculture, agribusiness and rural development. He worked for the Farming Systems Association of Zambia (FASAZ) from 2001-2004 as an Agriculture and Rural Development expert where he specialized in rural and agriculture development projects appraisals, M&E, designing and conducting smallholder agribusiness skills training for several agencies. From 2005-2008, he worked as a Projects and Liaison officer under Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU), here he supported the design and implementation of key agricultural initiative to facilitate rural development. Under ZNFU, he served as the Head of Outreach Member Services Agribusiness from 2009-2017.
He has been a Lead Consultant on various projects such as the EU funded Farm Risk Management for Africa (FARMAF) and the joint ZNFU/AGRINUT project. He also led a multi-disciplinary team which included banks such as Zanaco and Natsave as well as ZNFU to design, pilot and roll out a small scale ag-inputs financing. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Agriculture Sciences degree from the University of Zambia and is currently an Executive MBA Candidate with the Catholic University of Murcia, Spain & Cambridge International UK.
